Every student at Dover Elementary School is enrolled in the general music program. Students attend a music class for 40 minutes once during every 6 day rotation. In music class we listen, play, dance, sing, describe, explain, compare, express, and experience a variety of genres that span world cultures and history.
Expectations and Grades
Students receive two grades for music on their report cards. One reflects their behavior, attitude, and level of participation. The other reflects the degree to which they understand the musical concept(s) being taught. Students are expected to be sitting properly, facing the correct direction, and focusing their attention while in music class. They are also expected to perform activities calmly, quietly, and safely.
4 = The student meets the behavioral expectations in addition to actively initiating their participation.
3 = The student meets the behavioral expectations.
2 = The student needs multiple reminders of their expected behavior in music class.
1 = The student performs hurtful or unsafe actions.
Understanding of Musical Concepts Grade:
4 = The student demonstrates the understanding of the musical concept(s) being taught through the clear mastery of the daily objective.
3 = The student demonstrates the understanding of the musical concept(s) being taught through adequately performing the daily objective.
2 = The student demonstrates a growing towards the understanding of the musical concept(s) being taught through inconsistent performance of the daily objective.
1 = The student has not yet gained the understanding of the musical concept(s) being taught as demonstrated by their inability to perform the daily objective.
